All’apice della carriera nel 1957, a soli 22 anni, Elvis Presley incide il suo terzo album LOVING YOU composto da 12 canzoni.

Mean woman blues è un brano travolgente reso spettacolare dalla poderosa interpretazione di Presley che intona su una donna dal carattere forte: la coda sfuma dissolvendo la musica lasciando così Elvis cantare gli ultimi versi a cappella. Teddy bear esalta l’esecuzione al piano di Dudley Brooks e l’accompagnamento vocale dei magici Jordanaires. Lo splendido ed intimo pianoforte si riprende la scena pervadendo Loving you con la sua atmosfera rilassante, mentre Presley canta in immersione accompagnato da soffi corali e la magia si espande. Got a lot o’ livin’ to do è un vertiginoso boogie woogie e la voce di Tupelo non conosce sosta. La stupenda country/rock Lonesome cowboy sprigiona la grandezza dei Jordainers con interventi vocali drammatici, mentre Elvis impone la sua versatilità di interprete affiancato da un rassicurante fischio pastorale. La breve e divertente Hot dog è un pezzo accelerato che riproduce ottimamente l’eco di una locomotiva in marcia. Dopo tocca all’energia di Rock ‘n’roll con party ed anche stavolta il minutaggio è un lampo. Il rifacimento del rythm & blues Blueberry hill, reso celebre da Fats Domino, è l’ottava traccia, mentre un altro classico è il successivo True love scritto da Cole Porter a cui Elvis prosciuga la sontuosa orchestra della versione originale di Bing Crosby e Grace Kelly. Don’t leave me now si apre con la voce di Elvis spogliata di musica, poi il pezzo va e viene tra accelerate e decelerate dell’interprete che la rende una ballata piena di trasporto. Have l told you lately that l love you è molto affascinante già dal suo intro di piano che poi si defila continuando a essere presente mentre la voce di Presley è sostenuta da un soffice contributo di percussioni. Chiude I need you so, grande piano una batteria che picchia come una grancassa e cori come oro colato.

Il disco, oltre ad avere una sua autonomia, fu anche l’occasione per confluire da colonna sonora dell’omonimo film, ma tornando alla musica in sala d’incisione Elvis fu accompagnato da seguaci più che turnisti D. J Fontana alla batteria, Scotty Moore alla chitarra, Bill Black al basso e i Jordainers ai cori dei quali vale la pena ricordare i nomi per coloro che non li conoscono: Gordon Stocker, Neal Matthews, Hoyt Hawkins e Hugh Jarrett. Una collaborazione trionfale in una carrellata di generi resi moderni e accessibili per chiunque.
