Minari (film di Lee Isaac Chung del 2020)

MINARI è un film drammatico del regista Lee Isaac Chung con protagonisti Steven Yeun, Han Ye-ri, Alan Kim, Noel Kate Cho e Yoon Yeo-jeong.

La famiglia Yi si trasferisce dalla California all’Arkansas in una casa su ruote, dove il capofamiglia Jacob intende coltivare prodotti tipici coreani allo scopo di venderli agli acquirenti a Dallas accettando l’aiuto del solo Paul, un uomo di fede e alquanto bizzarro. Contraria all’operato dell’uomo è la moglie Monica, preoccupata dall’isolamento del posto privo di un ospedale a breve distanza per il figlio David cardiopatico: per questo e non solo si scontrano spesso. I coniugi lavorano per un’azienda di pulcini ma i soldi sono pochi per tirare avanti e coprire le spese dell’ambiziosa attività di Jacob. Intanto per assistere i due figli arriva la nonna Soon-ja che inizialmente è invisa dal piccolo David, il quale non sopporta il turpiloquio dell’anziana e la sua incapacità da casalinga, cosa che spinge Soon-ja a cambiare abitudini e a stringere un ottimo rapporto col nipote che porta anche a coltivare i semi della pianta del Minari. Ad allietare la famiglia arriva anche il responso medico positivo della visita cardiologica del bambino ed al contempo Jacob conclude una transazione con un acquirente mostrando più entusiasmo per l’affare che per la salute migliorata del figlio. La nonna purtroppo viene colpita da un ictus e tra le conseguenze appicca un involontario incendio al deposito dei prodotti, mentre al rientro la famiglia prova un disperato intervento per salvarlo riuscendo solo a scampare la morte ritrovando nella disgrazia l’unità familiare. Nel frattempo il Minari è cresciuto bene e dà alla famiglia Yi la forza di ripartire.

Candidato a ben 6 Oscar, ne ha vinto uno la bravissima nonna non protagonista, conquistando la decina per il miglior film grazie a un racconto senza fronzoli col suo familiare contesto bucolico, le difficoltà realistiche a sbarcare il lunario, la salute precaria di un figlio, il rapporto contrastato nell’ambito coniugale, la finzione che racconta la realtà e crea empatia con gli spettatori.
