Geppo il Folle (film di Adriano Celentano del 1978)

Nel 1978 Adriano Celentano, come ama(va) fare, dirige un film da lui scritto, GEPPO IL FOLLE, con l’ironia grottesca tipica dell’artista e l’adorata moglie Claudia al fianco.

Il suo ruolo gli calza a pennello, ovvero quello di un cantante di successo al quale manca la consacrazione internazionale, specie negli Stati Uniti, patria di Barbra Streisand, unica interprete che Geppo reputa alla sua altezza, un aspetto del personaggio veritiero di chi lo recita. Ma anche i grandi hanno qualche pecca, quella del folle è non saper parlare l’inglese, lingua per antonomasia. Ricorre così alla bellissima insegnante Gilda che però, quando il folle entra in classe, è costretta ad assistere a scene di idolatria delle studentesse nei confronti del cantante. Questo la spinge a erigere un muro tra sé stessa e il carismatico artista, pur se tuttavia in segreto ne è attratta. Intanto la sfrenata popolarità attira anche antipatia e odio su Geppo, che viene aggredito da tre uomini rischiando la vita. Ne viene fuori e, convinto più che mai di essere “superiore”, predica al prossimo (altra citazione puramente non casuale celentaniana) ma è solo cantando che fa breccia con la gente e nel tempo anche nel cuore di Gilda, che però gli impone una scelta: o lei o la consacrazione artistica in America. Geppo allora, coerente, sceglie la seconda.

Come accaduto ad altri film impegnati di Celentano, anche GEPPO IL FOLLE ha subito una revisione al montaggio, approdando sul piccolo schermo con ben 20′ in meno di girato e senza una distribuzione in videoteca. Tra i suoi personaggi, in ruoli minori o impercettibili, spiccano, Lory Del Santo, Marco Columbo, Giorgio Faletti, Silvia Annichiarico, Miki Del Prete e Gino Santercole, gli ultimi due preziosi autori di molte memorabili canzoni di Adriano. Rare le trasmissioni televisive del film che, pur essendo amato dai proseliti di Celentano, non è riuscito a vincere la prova più ardua, quella del tempo, al netto di ciò penso si tratti di un buon prodotto, bizzarro ma attraente con la tipica galleria di personaggi sopra le righe tanto care al suo autore, buona musica e il solito protagonista accentratore.
