Sibilla, la musa dimenticata di Franco Battiato

Pensando alle figure femminili che hanno animato la vita artistica di Franco Battiato, è facile ritornare ai nomi che tutti in qualche modo conoscono bene: Alice, Giuni Russo, Carmen Consoli, Milva.

Pochi fortunati, soprattutto collezionisti di rarità o spettatori del Festival di Sanremo 1983 si ricorderanno invece di Sibilla, cantante nata in Zimbabwe ma naturalizzata italiana, che si presentò alla rassegna in questione con un brano intitolato Oppio, con testo e musiche di Franco Battiato e Giusto Pio.

Da dove sia arrivata artisticamente Sibilla non è dato sapere: dovette in tutta corsa incidere nel 1982 un 45 giri dal titolo Sud Africa/Alta tensione (ancora oggi inedito) al solo scopo di essere ammessa al Festival, che non contemplava cantanti che non avessero già una minima esperienza discografica alle spalle.

Presentatasi alla prima serata con il brano in gara, fu inconsapevole vittima di un clamoroso errore nella base musicale che doveva fare da sottofondo all’esibizione canora (ricordiamo che all’epoca non si suonava con l’orchestra ma solo su basi registrate): il fonico che preparò la base evidentemente sbagliò e mise la bobina con l’esibizione cantata dalla stessa Sibilla, invece di quella solo strumentale, col risultato che la povera interprete dovette sovraincidere la sua stessa voce con evidente imbarazzo. Ciò purtroppo comportò un’esibizione precaria e qualitativamente scadente che le costò l’eliminazione già alla prima serata, nonostante un brano interessante in puro stile-Battiato, pieno di citazioni colte e musiche di primissimo livello. L’inconveniente tecnico venne spiegato proprio da Franco Battiato, alla presenza della stessa Sibilla, in una puntata di Domenica In appena successiva alla conclusione del Festival.

Il pubblico premiò comunque il singolo con un risultato di vendite di circa 30.000 copie, ma nella sostanza la carriera di Sibilla finì qui, salvo poche altre incursioni degne di nota, come una collaborazione nel disco PAROLE D’AMORE SCRITTE A MACCHINA di Paolo Conte. Dal 1990 non si hanno praticamente più notizie di lei.
